A native of South Carolina, Susan moved to the North Carolina mountains after college in 1997. There she fell for clay with a turn at a friend’s wheel. After receiving her B.F.A in Ceramics and Painting at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC(2000), Susan became a member of cone 10 studios(SC) in 2003.
During years living between Charleston, SC and San Francisco, CA she developed a love for California style. Influences to her pottery include this warm modernism, the Japanese aesthetic as well as contemporary design and fashion. Most importantly, Susan enjoys ceramics as a means for art involved in everyday life.
In 2005, she became an owning partner of cone 10 studios, a collective ceramic studio and gallery on the upper peninsula of Charleston, SC. Susan continues to have her studio here and share in this clay community.
